John Zeigler married Almeda Grover. They lived in South Valley in the vicinity of Onoville and then removed to Red House and farmed there in his latter years.

They were parents of 10 children. In 1900 they reported that six of their 10 children were living.

John was initially buried at Red House at the cemetery there. But in the 1960s, in order to make way for the interstate and for the Kinzua Dam project, hundreds of graves were unearthed and were removed to Steamburg Cemetery. The picture to the right is of the cemetery as it was when John was buried there.

His obituary is from the Monday, Nov. 29 edition of the Salamanca Republican Press, 1909.

Children of John and Almeda (Grover) Zeigler:

Levi W. Zeigler B. 1844 D. 1928
Rozantha aka Rose Ruth (Zeigler) Arnold B. 1845 D. 1906
Charlotte "Lottie" (Zeigler) Aldrich Kinney B. 1847 D. 1827
Louisa B. 1849 D.?
Emma B. 1851 D.?
George B. 1854 D. 1928
Lenard B. 1856 D. 1878
Lewis B. 1858. D between 1880 - 1888
Mary, B. 1861 D. between 1870 - 1875
Frank B. 1866 D. 1938

The newspaper mentions that John Zeigler buried a daughter in 1883 in the Steamburg Cemetery. Her name wasn't mentioned. I suspect it was a married daughter, either Emma or Louisa who disappear during marrying age. One of the two had to be living in 1900 though as they report 6 living children and the rest are accounted for.

Either way, the sisters aren't mentioned as visiting family in adulthood in the paper. One of the two died in 1883. Lewis died between 1880 and 1888 as he disappears, and his Onondaga Indian wife, Cordelia (Pierce) Zeigler (Daughter of Abel Pierce) remarries a John Weaver in South Valley in 1888 as a widow.
