Dean A. Deller

(June 26, 1930 - August 7, 2017)

Dean A. Deller, 87 of Dallastown, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7 at the York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Florine M. (Boyd) Deller.

Mr. Deller was born in Dallastown on June 26, 1930 and was the son of the late George V. and Catherine M. (Grove) Deller.

Dean was a veteran of the Korean War, and proudly served in the US Army. He worked for Cole Steel manufacturing and was active in the United Steelworkers Union. He retired after more than 30 years of service and later became a member of the Cole Steel Bible committee. Growing up on a farm made a lasting impression on Dean and he continued to farm throughout his life. He was known for having a “green thumb” and operated a produce stand in Dallastown. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Dallastown where he was involved with the Parish Council, Finance Committee and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dean enjoyed being involved with politics and was a Republican Committee Man for more than 40 years. He also belonged to Dallastown American Legion Post 605.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Diane M. Gurreri and her husband Rick of Dallastown; a son, Vincent F. Deller of York; a grandson, Matthew Gurreri and his wife Lea; four granddaughters, Gina Gurreri, Nicole Gurreri, Sarah Deller and Allison L. Thompson; and a great granddaughter, Josephine Gurreri. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert and Clair Deller; two sisters, Rita Shirker and Monica Bowman; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis E. and his wife Joan and Dwight D. Deller; two daughters, Sheila L. and Catherine Deller; three brothers, John Henry, Gerald and Gerard Deller; and a sister, Gloria Daugherty.

A viewing for Dean will take place on Sunday, August 13 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Dallastown and again on Monday, August 14 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 251 E. Main St., Dallastown, with A Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 AM. Fr. John McCloskey, OFM, cap officiating. Interment to follow in Dallastown Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Dallastown.
