PINK ADAMS KILLED
Well Known Citizen of Franklin Found Riddled With Bullets
The body of Mr. Pink Adams was discovered in the public road near the home of Mr. Bardwell just this side of McCall Creek Saturday night riddled with bullets. Mr. Adams had been in Brookhaven having brought the McCall Creek mail for Dr. Cain that day.
An inquest was held over the body Saturday night and Sunday. The jury found that the deceased had come to his death at the hands of John Nettels, Wm. Mixon Sr., Wm. Mixon Jr. with another Mixon as accessory. The body indicated that Mr. Adams was shot from different directions and two pistols of different calibre.
The report was spread abroad that Mr. Adams was killed by whitecaps to prevent his testifying against them in the Federal Court. In the meantime Nettles and the Misons went to Meadville surrendered and were put in jail. It is said that Mr. Nettles claims to have done the shooting with two pistols, and exhonorates the Mixons. He says that he was returning from an Odd Fellows' meeting when he met Adams, who was drinking; that Adams abused him and started to shoot him.
Mr. Adam's pistol was found in his hand with two shells empty. Nettles' friends say that he was never a whitecap and is not under indictment before the Federal Court.

Attorney for the Defense Talks Freely Concerning the Case..
The Three Nixons Will be Able to Clearly Prove an Alibi.
Hon. W. B. Mixon, of McComb, member of the lower house of the legislature from Pike County, who is at the capital today on federal court business, has been retained to defend the three Nixons and John Nettles, charged with the assassination of a man named Pink Adams, in Franklin County, which occurred about two weeks ago.
Mr. Mixon denies that the whitecaps had anything whatever to do with the killing of Adams, or that the three Nixons, father and two sons, were in any way involved in the affair. Nettles, he says, has confessed to the killing, and will establish a clear case of self defense.
The Nixons, says their attorney, could not possibly have been involved in a plot, and they were not even in the vicinity of the tragedy when it occurred. Adams was undoubtedly intoxicated and provoked a difficulty with Nettles, compelling the later to resort to self defense. Although it is claimed that Adams had the government mail in his possesion when killed, he was not the regular mail carrier.
Mr. Mixon has filed a plea in abarement with Judge Niles, and it is not liely that the cases will come to trial at this term of the Franklin County Circuit Court.

Owing to the fact that the Franklin County jail is to be torn down and rebuilt, Judge Wilkinson ordred that John Nettles and three Mixons, indicted for the murder of Pink Adams, and whose trial was postponed until next term of court, be transferred to the Lincoln County jail for safe keeping. The prisoners arrived here late Sunday evening under a heavy special guard. It is learned that their attorneys will apply for a writ of habeas corpus and endeavor to have them released on bond at an early day.

John Nettles, William Nixon and Nixon's two sons who were indicted by the Franklin County grand jury for the murder of Pink Adams, and whose cases were continued to the next term of court, were removed on Sunday last from Meadville to Brookhaven jail. The cause for removal being that the old jail at Meadville is being torn away for the building of a new one. We learn that the above name prisoners will at an early day, through their attorneys, institute haveas corpus proceedings for bail. We also understand that Chancellor Ventress will hear the case.
