Shirley Ann Ebelt, age 84, of Shawano, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in Shawano. She was born in the Town of Herman on April 30, 1933, the daughter of the late Anton and Loraine (Pevonka) Hoffman. She was married to Richard Martens, Sr. on June 20, 1953. On May 2, 1977, Shirley was united in marriage to Lester Ebelt, who preceded her in death on May 6, 1997. Shirley lived in the Shawano area all of her adult life and enjoyed volunteering in her community. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she received the “Mother of the Year” award. Also at Sacred Heart, she was a past Vice-President of the CCW, a funeral dinner chairman, rummage sale and picnic chairman. She was on the board of directors for the Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center as well as manager and treasurer for 20 years of the resale store and was very active in the ARC. In her free time she enjoyed knitting and gardening.

Shirley is survived by: three sons, Richard Martens, Jr. of Shawano, David Martens, Sr. of San Jose, CA and Dean Martens of San Diego, CA; two step-sons, Harvey (Eileen) Ebelt of Shawano and Robert (Nancy) Ebelt of Marion; 12 grandchildren, Heather Martens, Christopher (Carlene) Martens, Matthew (Jessica) Martens, Michael Martens, Andrew Martens, Jonathan Martens, Timothy Martens, Nathan Martens, Kathryn (Jake) Leeman, Michael (Becky) Ebelt, Brad Ebelt and Ann Ebelt; 15 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Brandon, David, Autumn, Lily, Austin, Melissa, Elizabeth, Caleb, Isabella, Brayden, Charlotte, Malcolm, Raylan and Owen; and one great-great-grandchild on the way. She is further survived by: her siblings, Janice (Clarence) Natzke of Tigerton, Jeanette Crow of Hinkley, MN, James Hoffman of Gresham, Rosemary Buchberger of Mosinee, Rachel Mola of FL, Ruben Hoffman of Tigerton and Cheryl (Charles) Ketchum of Shawano; as well as her brother-in-law, Don Baumgartner of Shawano.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Lester; grandson, David; daughter-in-law, Lynne; her parents; and siblings, Frances Kovacich, Lorraine Ascher, Gilbert Hoffman, Carol Hoffman and Rita Baumgartner.

Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with Father Tom Farrell officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano from 4:00 - 8:00 pm and again at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A parish wake service will be held at 7:30 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be forwarded to Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center.

“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
