Mary was born in Wormingford, Essex, England, and was baptised there on August 19, 1613. She was the daughter of William Knapp and his wife, Judith Tue. She came to New England with her parents and married Thomas Smith about 1637, probably in Watertown, Massachusetts. Thomas and Mary had nine children. Thomas Smith died in Watertown on March 10, 1692/3, the record says aged 92 years, but he probably was younger. His will was dated March 16, 1687/8 and proved May 8, 1693. The will mentions wife Mary, sons Thomas, Ephriam, Jonathan and Joseph, daughter Mary and deceased daughter Sarah. The fact that he mentions his wife Mary in his will which was written in 1688, would seem to indicate that she was alive at that time, and did not die in 1667, as some have claimed.MARY, 3rd known child of William & Judith (Tue) Knopp, was baptized at Wormingford 19 August 1613. She married by 1637 Thomas Smith of Watertown (eldest child b. Watertown 18 September 1637.
