Death Came After Illness of Six Days - Funeral Thursday at Benson
Mrs John Broers, Sr., died at 9:20 Monday night at the family home in Cazenovia of an illness of six days, her death being due to paralysis.
Elizabeth Tjaden was the daughter of Charles Tjaden and Mary Smith Tjaden and was born in Linn township Dec. 16, 1875. Her death occured on her 65th birthday.
She was united in marriage to John Broers on Dec. 4, 1893, in St Peter's Lutheran church, Benson. The couple had resided in this vicinity all their married life and for the last 26 years at Cazenovia. Eight children were born to Mr and Mrs Broers, three of whom are deceased. The children, who with their father survive are: Charles and Mrs Marie Obert of Cazenovia, Ernest of Metamora, Mrs Velma Fredericks of Peoria and Bernard of Cazenovia. Thirteen grandchildren also survive.
Brothers and sisters surviving are Ralph Tjaden of Melrose Park, Harm Tjaden of Benson, George Tjaden of Cazenovia, Charles Tjaden, John Tjaden, Anna Reddy, Minnie Moreland of Peoria, and Kate Brauer of Rockford. Her parents and three sisters preceded her in death.
The body was brought to the Mason funeral home in Metamora and Tuesday was taken to the residence, where friends gathered on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings to pay their respects.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 at the residence and at 2 o'clock in St Paul's Lutheran church, Benson, the Rev. Braunsweig being in charge. Interment was in the Benson cemetery.
Mrs Broers was highly esteemed throughout this community and neighbors and many friends mourn with the family in the loss of a beloved wife, mother and friend.
