Friedrich Schmid,son of Friedrich and Anna (Pfeiffle) Schmid, was born in Walddorf, Wuerttemberg, Germany. He sailed from Lahave on June 8, 1833 on the ship Florida, and arrived in Detroit Aug 10, 1833, a trip of over 2 months. He was the first German Protestant minister in Michigan, and was known locally as the Father of Lutheranism. He married Louise Mann Sept. 3, 1834 in Scio Twp., MI. They had 12 children - Emanuel, Louisa (Volz), Fredrick, Marie (Mack), Lydia (Kirchofer), Elizabetha, Jonathan, Timothy, Sophia, Nathaniel, Anna and Theophilus.
