Wesley Fletcher, as a small child, moved with his family from Michigan to Scioto County, Ohio settling on government land, then becoming one of the pioneer families in that state. He married Elizabeth Pearl, April 3, 1853. Wesley and Elizabeth remained in Madison Township, Ohio, until 1861 when they moved to Illinois and farmed there until coming to the city of Dallas. His widowed mother, Cynthia (Brant) Curtis, accompanied them. After two years in Dallas, the Curtis family rented in the North Mesquite area then purchased 190 acres farm land in New Hope. They were faithful members of the First Christian Church of New Hope and he donated the land for the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
