Dewayne Winford Taylor, 91, of Eugene passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on December 6, 1924 in Belle, Missouri, the son of Samuel Lee and Elsie Irene (Spurgeon) Taylor, both of whom preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, serving on the USS Pyro.
He lived in the state of California for many years after the war and worked as a firefighter and also a carpenter. He moved back to Missouri to be closer to family as his health declined. Dewayne loved to build models and toys, and play with his grandchildren. He was also an member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion in the state of California.
He is survived by one daughter, Joan Porting of Eugene; three sisters, Norma Weissman of Linn, Shirley Clark of Granite City, Illinois, and Ann Higgins of Pacific; three grandchildren, Jeff Seibert, Chris Seibert and Brian Porting; five great grandchildren, Tyler Seibert, Curtis Matheney, Dalton Seibert, Amber Seibert, and Ashley Seibert; and one great great grandchild, Ashtyn Seibert.
Services will be private for the family and will be held at a later date.
