Artist. Born into a family of lawyers, he studied law in Vienna, Austria from 1841 until 1845 and then turned his attention to painting, studying under artists Joseph Danhauser and Franz Ebyl. From 1846 until 1867 he resided in Paris, France. In 1852 he experienced his first major success by painting a portrait of the famed Polish General Henryk Dembinski, which won the first prize. He was also the recipient of the French Legion of Honor. His other notable paintings include "Marshal" (portrait - 1859), "Portrait of an Artist's Wife" (1865), "Loenia Bluhdorn" (portrait - 1871), "Chicken War" (1872), "Landscape from Bortniki upon Dniester" (1878), and "Jan Dzierzyslaw Tarnowski" (portrait - 1889). In 1867 he returned to Poland and eventually settled in Karkow.
