Prior to me managing this memorial, nearly all of the below data was Copy and Pasted by whomever from the data I had on WorldConnect. :)

The military stone placed by the American Legion is not correct. Another John Berkheiser buried in Weasaw Baptist Cemetery, Miami County, Indiana is the one who served in this particular unit. I have all of the Berkheiser pension files I could locate and this Jonathan Berkheiser did not serve in the Civil War as far as I know at this writing.

Jonathan Berkheiser, aged 76 years, who died from paralysis this afternoon at 1:25 at the family home, practically starved to death, his tongue and throat being paralyzed. He suffered a second stroke about two weeks ago and his first stroke in May 1911.

He was born in Schuylkill county, Penn, August 13, 1836, and was married to Miss Maria Dress in Pennsylvania in 1889.

Forty-five years ago he came to Mishawaka and had farmed at different places in the vicinity ever since. He was a member of the United Brethren church.

Besides his wife, three daughters survive him, Mrs John Austin, of Mishawaka, Mrs Matthew Goldie, of Chicoa, Cal, and Mrs Albert Snow, of Barlamont, Mich, two sons, George, of San Francisco, and David Berkheiser, of Mishawaka, one sister, Mrs Elizabeth Berger, of South Bend, and one brother, Abraham Berkheiser, of South Bend.
The funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
