Alexander was the son of Edward Mayes & Mary (Freer) Case, and m. 17 Sep 1860 to Lovicey Emeline Cain, who is buried in Des Moines, IA. He entered the Civil War on 12 Nov 1861 from Calais, ME, serving in Co. I, 13th ME Infantry.
Alexander was also an ordained minister of the Christian Church.
