Death of Edgar Phelps
Edgar Phelps, 76, died at his home in Putney at 5 o'clock, last week Thursday afternoon, after a long illness.
Mr. Phelps was born in Grafton Aug. 21, 1858, a son of Dennis and Sylvia Phelps of that town. He was twice married, his first wife being Minnie Bennett of Bellows Falls. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Phelps, none of whom is living. He married as his second wife Vina Shillen, who died suddenly a few months ago.
Funeral services for Mr. Phelps were held at E. E. Knight's, Rev. L. K. Painter, pastor of the Federated church, officiating. The burial was in Walpole, the bearers being George Phelps, Bert Phelps, Richard Phelps, Harry Punt, Warren Punt and Frank Underwood.
Many beautiful flowers were sent by friends. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Underwood and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Punt and family of Keene, N. H.
Mr. Phelps leaves one sister, Mrs. Ada Punt, and two brothers, George and Bert Phelps of East Putney.
His daughter-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Coombs, who lived near his home, did much for his comfort during his long illness.
