Helen Gowanlock, daughter of William Gowanlock & Christian Laidlaw, born Aug. 13, 1827 in Hobkirk (Rulewater), Roxburgh, Scotland, christened Aug. 13, 1827 in Hobkirk, Roxburghshire, Scotland. She sailed with her parents and siblings for America on April 6, 1842. Helen married Archibald McGilvray, then George Nisbet in 1868, Bruce County. The funeral notice found in Stratford Perth Archives says she passed away on May 13, 1906 at age 79 on Lombard St. in Meaford, Ontario with the funeral service taking place at 7 A.M. on May 15, 1906. Interment to follow in Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin. Both her husbands are also buried there.
Helen & Archibald had one child, Christina Laidlaw McGilvray, born 1857 in Dunblane, Bruce County, died Feb. 14, 1942, Meaford Nursing Home.
