MELROSE NEWS

Relatives and friends were greatly shocked to hear of the death of Helen Fitzgerald which occurred at Mercy hospital in Des Moines on Tuesday morning, March 16. She was operated on for appendicitis and was thought to be recovering very nicely when pneumonia set in and later pleurisy and causing her death.

The remains were brought to Melrose on March 17 on No. 6 and taken to the home of her mother, Mrs. Thomas Fitzgerald. The funeral services were held on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Patrick's church. The pallbearers were Thomas O'Neil, George Maney, Edmond White, James Knowles, John Hannam. The twelve flower girls were class mates and close friends of Helen as follows: Edna Logan, Nellie White, Catherine O'Connor, Mary Dinneen, Marie Day, Margaret Ciska, Catherine and Anna O'Neil, Bernice Luttrell, Marie Ward, Margaret Murphy and Marie Murray.

She leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Mrs. Thomas Fitzgerald and sisters, Mrs. Jerry Dinneen, of Des Moines, Ia., Mrs. Ray Hannam and Mrs. James Carr, of Melrose, Mrs. Edmond Murray, of Minneapolis, Minn., and brothers, Michael Fitzgerald, of Melrose and William Fitzgerald, of Des Moines.
