Benny Joseph Astrino, 83, of Fairmont died Saturday (May 20, 2006) at Fairmont General Hospital.

Benny was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Chiefton, the son of the late Rosario and Rosa Germano Astrino.

Benny was retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Company and Speedway Market. He was a member of the Fairmont Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 629 and a very avid Fairmont Senior High School sports fan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Benny is survived by his wife, Betty Moroose Astrino; a daughter, Tina Straight and her fiancé, Richard Hudkins, of Fairmont; a son, John Astrino and his wife Barbara of Stow, Ohio; six grandchildren, Katherine, Anthony and Margaret Astrino, and R.J., Suzanne and Anna Marie Straight; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Astrino and Salvatore "Sam" Asterino; and three sisters, Victoria Astrino, Frances Smiers and Josephine Nardelli.

Friends and family may call from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Wednesday at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Father Robert Perriello as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The Marion County Veterans Council will conduct full military rites at the grave side.
