Redd- Mr. Philip O Redd was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania Dec. 24, 1818, and was married to Elizabeth Rupp on June 29th 1843. To this union were born ten children; one of which died in infancy, and nine survive their father.
For twenty years he had been a constant and faithful member of the M.E. Church, weeks before his death, typhoid fever set in, from which he sank very rapidly until the 5th of May when his change came, and surrounded by his weeping family and friends, e calmly and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus. During his illness he frequently expressed the thought that he would not recover, but that he was prepared for the change.
The funeral, which took place from the Pleasant Church May 7th was largely attended, there being a hundred carriages in the procession. The kind attention and deep feeling manifested at the funeral is an evidence of the high esteem in which he was held. He leaves a wife, nine children and twelve grandchildren to mourn his departure. The have lost an affectionate and doting husband and father, the community a good citizen and the church a faithful member, but while we mourn his loss, we will submit to the hand of Him that doeth all things well, and rejoice in the victory received.
