Mary Ann (Griebel) Peaslee, 82, died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, Kentucky surrounded by her family and close friends.

Mary Ann was born in Stockton Kansas on August 13, 1932 to Merl and Eva (Evans) Griebel. She attended Stockton High School where she graduated a year early. Mary Ann attended Kansas State University in Manhattan Kansas, where she graduated with honors, was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics (’53), and a Master of Science with concentration in Food Nutrition (‘56). While at Kansas State, she was an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority; in the top 10% of her class; and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She had a lifelong interest in education; was a Food Science Instructor at the University of Kentucky; and was involved in a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing women increased opportunities for higher education.

On January 24, 1953, she married Doyle Eugene Peaslee from Stockton, Kansas. She was married to Doyle for thirty-seven years until his premature death to cancer in 1990. Mary Ann and Doyle raised two sons, Steven Doyle and Douglas Arthur Peaslee.

In the early years of her marriage, Mary Ann lived in Chicago, Illinois where Doyle was stationed during the Korean War; in Manhattan, Kansas and Ames, Iowa while she and Doyle were finishing their post-graduate degrees; and in Woodbridge, Connecticut where Doyle worked at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven. In 1966, they moved to Lexington, Kentucky where they both worked at the University of Kentucky, which included six months living and working in Hawaii.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Peaslee and wife Marilynn, Lincoln, NE, Douglas Peaslee and wife Denise, Erlanger, KY; four grandchildren, Katie, David (Elise), Megan and Christopher Peaslee; and her sister-in-law Donna of the late John Griebel, Stockton, KS.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, November 8th at 2 pm at the Cedars of Lebanon Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH followed by a gathering at the home of Doug and Denise Peaslee, Erlanger, KY.
