Michael A. Miller was the second of thirteen known children of the Rev. Joseph H. Miller (1806-1887) and Sarah Sowers Miller (1808-1873), who married 23 Mar 1827 at Davidson County, North Carolina. After Sarah died, Rev. Miller remarried to the widow Mrs. Anna (went by Annie) Maria Rothrock Thomas (1829-1879) on 23 Apr 1874 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. Rev. Miller and Annie did not have any children together. After Annie died, Rev. Miller remarried to the widow Mrs. Sarah Susanna Ketner Crater (1836-1904) on 01 Feb 1880 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. Rev. Miller and Sarah Ketner Crater Miller did not have any children together.

Michael first married to Eliza A. Burke Miller (1836-1870) on 22 Jan 1854 at Davidson County, North Carolina. Michael and Eliza were the parents of six known children, namely:

2. George Adam Miller (1858-1936)
3. Jacob Allison Miller (1861-1898)
4. infant daughter Miller (1863-1863)
5. Franklin Alexander Miller (1864-1896)
6. Mary Sarah Elizabeth Miller Mendenhall (1868-1891)

After Eliza died, Michael remarried to Mary Ann Nifong Miller (1843-1883) on 16 Apr 1871 at Davidson County, North Carolina. Michael and Mary were the parents of four known children, namely:

7. Andrew Joseph Pinkney Miller (1871-1906)
8. Charles Moses Columbus Miller (1874-1924)
9. Julius Albert Eugene Miller (1877-1924)
10. Felix Edwin Roan Miller (1879-1937)

After Mary died, Michael remarried to Mary's younger sister, Rosina (went by Rosa) Emiline Nifong Miller (1850-1914) on 09 Dec 1883 at Davidson County, North Carolina. Michael and Rosa were the parents of two known children, namely:

11. Augusta Virginia Miller (1885-1973)
12. Amanda V. Miller Sink (1888-1969)
