Ernest Keith Burden, 66, of Holden, Mo., formerly of Independence, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2006, at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home in Holden, Mo. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2006, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo., with military honors. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research. Ernest Keith Burden was born on November 10, 1940, in Harrisonville, Mo., the son of Ernest Wray and Essie Mae (Zumwalt) Burden. He was a 1958 graduate of Kingsville High School in Kingsville, Mo., and served as a Fire Control Technician in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1963. On October 27, 1967, he married Evelyn Dickey in Independence, Mo. Mr. Burden was an electrician for the Kansas City Star for 23 years, retiring July 1, 2005. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Holden and the Holden Ons Square Dance Club. He had lived in Independence, Mo., before returning to the Holden community six years ago. Surviving his passing are his wife, Evelyn Burden, of the home; two sons, Keith Burden, Kingsville, Mo., and Mark Burden, Holden, Mo.; one daughter, Lisa Richardson, Holden, Mo.; one sister, Frances Clapper, Holden, Mo.; six grandchildren, Crystal Burden-Bond, Nicholas Burden, Jason Burden, Jordon Pearce, Connor Boyce and Kelsey Burden, and two step granddaughters, Destiny Crain and Sariah Sewell.
