Beatrice Ann "Mrs. Bea" Mathias, 76, of Sykesville, died Monday, June 23, 2014, at home.

Born July 20, 1937, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Luther Michael Butler and Anna Matilda Ray Butler. She was the wife of Kenneth Daniel Mathias, her husband of 60 years.

She was also known as "Petie" to her family. She was the school secretary at Freedom Elementary School for 22 years and was known to all of the children as "Mrs. Bea."

She was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters and sons-in-law Kendra Ann and Chuck Lindenberg, of Eldersburg, Danielle Marie and Don Yates, of Sykesville, and Michaelle Lee and Doug Fountain, of Sykesville; sisters Joan Lee Papa, of Perry Hall, Sharon Marie Burrows, of Westminster, and Luanna Gail Stewart, of Hampstead; and grandchildren Tyler Conaway and wife Katie, Todd and Tayla Lindenberg, Karah, Kristin, Karlie and Kelli Yates, and Daniel and Natalie Fountain.

She was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Lou Halko.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26 and Friday, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with her pastor, the Rev. Donna Rehn officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park.
