Edward J. Topel of Arlington Heights for 55 years Services for Edward J. Topel, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Entombment will be in Ridgewood Memorial Park, Des Plaines. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at the funeral home. Born Jan. 27, 1927, in Chicago, he died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Northwest Community Hospital. Mr. Topel was a World War II Army veteran and a carpenter superintendent for JC Long Construction and Crane Construction. He raised homing pigeons from the age of 7 years. He loved his garden and being outside. He was a licensed pilot and loved flying his own plane. He was the husband of Shirlee M. (nee Mervicker); father of Edward L. (Barbara Holcomb) Topel; brother of Eleanore Knudsen, Evelyn (Eugene) Ohlson and the late June (Frank) Janosik; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
