PIONEER OF CLUB WORK SUCCUMBS
Mrs. John W. Mitchell of Coronado, ex-Angeleno, Dies While Visiting Here

Mrs. John W. Mitchell of Coronado died unexpectedly at the home of her brother, Lemuel Julian Shelby (sic), Occidental Boulevard, at noon yeserday. For some years she has made her home in Coronado, but came here ten days ago to visit at the home of Superior Judge Edmonds, as well as that of her brother.

Mrs. Mitchell, who was born in Newport, Ky., came from England in 1888, and was married to Mr. Mitchell at the home of Mrs. Juana Achey Neal in West Adams street May 30, 1888.

She was a charter member of the Friday Morning Club, and at one time was president of the board for two years, and four years a trustee of the Whittier State School.

She was a member of .... She was appointed director of the Bridges Art Gallery in San Diego, taking Mr. Mitchell's place after his death. The Mitchell home in Los Angeles was at First and Vermont avenue, and after selling this she and Mr. Mitchell moved to Coronado in 1922.

Mr. Mitchell died in July, 1925, and the following summer Mrs. Mitchell opened and dedicated the John W. Mitchell Art Galleries in Coronado. The funeral services will be conducted in the Mitchell Gallery Wednesday afternoon, and interment in Rosedale Cemetery here Thursday afternoon will be private.

Funeal services for Mrs. John William Mitchell of Coronado, who died Monday, will be conducted at Rosedale Cemetery at 4 p.m. today. Harry Tuttle of Ninth Church of Christ Scientist will officiate. Services at the Mitchell Galleries in Coronado were conducted yesterday with Lewis Mellen of First Church of Christ Scientist officiating.

Mitchell, died suddenly .... at the residence of Mrs. Mitchell, in Cahuenga valley." Los Angeles County Voter Registration 1888-90 shows John W. Mitchell, Attorney, Cahuenga.

Unless N.C. and America had a second daughter (Adina), then Adina must be Ada (or Ida) Bell "Addie" Selby born 20 Dec 1854 Campbell Co., KY, to N. C. Selby and America Miller (Kentucky Births and Christenings).
