Zaamir Bhatti was born on Christmas Eve 2007 in Pakistan. He was the beloved only child to a devout Christian family, and was a member of All Saints Church in Peshawar. In Pakistan, Christians represent only 1.6% of the population and are heavily persecuted against.

On September 22, 2013, Zaamir's church was hit with twin suicide bombers, killing 89 and wounding over 200. Zaamir and his family were attending church as the bombs went off, and Zaamir lost his uncle in the attack. Zaamir himself was seriously injured, suffering severe head trauma and shrapnel in his leg. The boy got up on his feet and walked from the church to the main road until he found help, stunning rescue workers with his bravery and determination. Due to a significant fracture in his leg due to the shrapnel, it took three months of treatment for Zaamir to be able to walk steadily again. He fought like a warrior, and once his body was healed, he was able to return to church a year later, even though he was terribly afraid. Due to the trauma of surviving such a horrific event, he started collecting toy guns, believing he would be safer if they were around. He decided he was going to be a soldier when he grew up, so he could fight against and defeat the evil that had struck his family that September day.

Although he won the battle against the injuries he had received in the bombing, he still complained of constant headaches and pain in his ears. This was thought to be a side effect of the head trauma he received, but in February 2015, after a thorough exam, Zaamir was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, an inoperable, terminal brain stem tumor. He was given no hope of survival and was given chemotherapy to try and reduce the effects of the tumor. After an incredible fight, he passed away on November 17, 2015. He was given a Christian burial in his home city of Peshawar. Zaamir's community will never forget the brave little boy who endured terrible traumas and fought bravely to live, and eventually gained his angel wings.
