SALEM Virginia B. Powell, 79, Salem, formerly of London, Ky., died at 3:40 a.m. Saturday at her residence.
She was born in London, Ky. She was the daughter of James F. and Bertha (Pennington) Brown.
She had retired as a supervisor of the Data Processing Division of the U.S. Bureau of the Census in Jeffersonville in 1975 after more than 25 years. She was a member of Bunker Hill Christian Church, Salem. She was a member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority in Salem. She had been a resident of Washington County since 1946.
Surviving are two sons: Gary L. Powell of Austin, Texas, and Kevin Powell of Franklin; two sisters: Sarah Ann Gray and Dorthea Miller, both of Henryville; one brother, Daughfus "Bud" Brown of Reddington, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were four brothers: Fred, James, Orville and Caleb Brown.
Services will be at conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dawalt Funeral Home in Salem. William "Butch"Gastfield will officiate.
Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society..
