SAN ANGELO — Abel Gaitan, 44, of Sterling City, passed away Monday, March 19, 2007, in a local hospital.
Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Sterling City Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Abel was born Nov. 24, 1962, in Sterling City, Texas, to Bisente and Alicia Gaitan. His early years were spent in Sterling City and his adult life in San Angelo, Texas. Abel was an avid pool player, loved the challenge of the sport, and it was his favorite pastime.

Abel was married to Anna Gaitan for 10 years bearing four children. He later married Rene Smith and had one daughter. Betty Ledezma was in Abel's latter part of life and was an inspiration and his "rock", especially during his illness. Abel's short life brought joy and laughter to all his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alicia Perez Gaitan; and former wife, Anna Gaitan.

Survivors are his father, Bisente Gaitan of San Angelo; sons Danny Gaitan, David Gaitan and Abel Gaitan Jr.; daughters Susan Gaitan and Nicole Gaitan; brothers Richard Gaitan and Bisente Gaitan Jr., all of San Angelo, and Vince Gaitan of Greely, Colo.; sisters Cynthia Gaitan Molina, Eva Gaitan and Debbie Gaitan, all of San Angelo; uncles Gilbert Gaitan and Juan Perez, both of San Angelo, and Joe Gaitan of Lubbock; aunts Ester Aten of Big Lake and Rosa Gomez of San Angelo; numerous nieces and nephews; and his girlfriend of 10 years, Betty Ledezma of San Angelo, Texas.
