Charles Abate Sr., 70, of 15 Lincoln Ave., a wire worker for the Kaiser Aluminum Corp., Bristol, for 40 years before retiring in 1982, died yesterday at home. He was the husband of the late Anne (Macomber) Abate.
Born in Bristol, he was a son of the late Andrew and Maria (Ferrara) Abate.
Mr. Abate was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Cup Defenders Association.
He leaves a son, Charles Abate Jr. of Warren; five daughters, Marsha D. Correa and Charlene Abate, both of Fall River, Mass., Anne Ingram and Wendy E. Alves, both of Bristol, and Teresa A. Souza of Tiverton; two brothers, Salvatore Abate of Long Island, N.Y., and Frank Abate of Pawtucket; four sisters, Anna Dallaire of Warren, Grace Proulx of Fall River, Frances Coury and Rose Andreozzi, both of Barrington, and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., with a service at 10 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lyndon Street, Warren. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
