Obituary of Mrs. T.S. Stonebraker.

Ella Downs was born on the Downs farm, located about four miles east of Cantril, and passed to her reward at Kirksville, Mo., Feb. 23, 1921, at an early hour of the day. She was married to T.S. Stonebraker December 24, 1884. To this union was born one son, J.N. Stonebraker, of Kirksville, Mo. She is survived by the husband, son and wife, and two grandchildren, J. Nelson and Jack; two sisters, Rachel M. Rider, of Cantril, and Jennie S. Mills, of Edmund, Okla.; one brother, A.B. Downs, of Guadalajara, Mexico. She was preceded in death by one sister, Cynthia A. Tackaberry, of Cantril, and one brother, Jacob Downs, of Belle Plain, Kan. She united with the Christian church in her early childhood, and was one of the charter members of that organization at Cantril and during all the succeeding years had been identified with all its activities. The Cantril auxiliary of the C.W.B.M. was organized eight years ago, and she was the leading spirit in its organization, and was its faithful president for the first five years of its existence. She was also a charter member of the Eastern Star at this place. She was the daughter of Aaron B. and Tabitha Downs. Her father was perhaps, as much or more than any other, the father of the church organization at Cantril, and was for many years its leading elder. Her grandfather, Jacob Ploughe, was one of the pioneer preachers of the county, and was one of the organizers of the old Egypt church, of which this church is a product. She had been a great sufferer for several years. None but herself, her companion and her God alone knew the extent of the suffering, but the Christian character she had builded enabled her to endure with patience and cheerfulness. The end came suddenly but peacefully. The funeral services were conducted from the Christian church by her former pastor, Eld. B.W. Pettit, after which the body was laid to rest in the Cantril cemetery. her life was an inspiration to those with whom she came to in contact.
