Lucy W. Abell, 86 of Columbus, GA passed away March 4, 2017, surrounded by her family, under the loving care of Columbus Hospice. The family will welcome guests for visitation Wednesday, March 8, 2017 10:00- 11:00am in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend David Howle officiating. Mrs. Abell was born August 24, 1930 in Richland, GA to her late parents James and Minnie Harry Watson. The youngest of thirteen siblings, Lucy learned the love of a large family. She was passionate about her family and loved family gatherings, watching the Braves and the Georgia Bull Dawgs, and just sitting quietly watching the birds. Along with her parents, Mrs. Abell is preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Abell, Jr.; eight brothers and three sisters; son-in-law Joe Hilderbrand. Those left to cherish her memory are: her sister, Madge Phillips of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters, Janet (Jerry) Sanders of Columbus, Cindy (Steve) Smith of Dayton, TN, and Suzanne Jones of Columbus; grandchildren, Justin (Angie) Smith, Jonathan Sanders, Ben Hilderbrand, Ashley (Colton) McClendon, Alexis (Fred) Hughes, and Brent Smith; great grandchildren, James and Mac Smith, and Ryder, Tanner and Emma Hughes; nieces, nephews, other family members, and special friend, Geneva Fortson
