Mary Jean Loukota, age 80, of Knoxville, Iowa passed away at West Ridge Specialty Care of Knoxville on Wednesday, December 06, 2017.

Mary was born August 24, 1937 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Harry and Agnes (Cummings) Loukota. She lived most of her life in Michigan, and graduated from WK Kellogg Rural Agricultural School. Following high school, Mary continued her education at Borgess School of Nursing in Kalamazoo, Michigan obtaining a three year degree in Nursing.

On June 14, 1958, Mary was united in marriage to Don Loukota, and to this union two children, Brett and Laura, were born. Mary and Don moved to Iowa and she began her nursing career working at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. She worked there for several years before she began employment at the Knoxville Rest Home. Mary and Don celebrated 38 loving years of marriage before Don’s passing on September 1, 1996.

Mary took great pride in gardening. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Mary also enjoyed the fall and traveling, but her love was her family. She was very proud of them and they were her world.

Mary’s survivors include her son, Brett (JoAnna) Loukota of Knoxville; daughter, Laura (Shane) Smith of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Corey (Andrea) Loukota and Bradley Loukota of Knoxville; and three great grandchildren, Carter, Dane, and Connor Loukota. Mary is also survived by her close friends, Norma Cooley of Knoxville and Bob and Enis Gray of Michigan.

She is preceded in death by her; husband, parents, and one sister, Mavis Price.

Mary’s wishes were to be cremated, and no services are planned at this time.
