He represented Rimouski from 1857 to 1861 and Temiscouata from 1861 to 1863 in the Legislature Assembly of the Province of Canada and Chicoutimi et Saguenay from 1874 to 1875 in the Legislature Assembly of Canada as a Conservative.

He was a shareholder in the Great Trunk Railway, as well as president of the Quebec and Lake St. John Railway, originally incorporated as the Quebec and Gorford Railway.
