Ralph was born and educated in Birmingham, AL. The son of John Celle Powell and Anna (Hostetler) Powell, he graduated from Phillips High School and went on to receive a BS in 1951 from Birmingham Southern College. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham, Class of 1955, receiving a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
After briefly practicing in Elba, AL, Ralph and Mimi moved to Mobile where he established a successful dental practice until his retirement. He was active in the Alabama Dental Association, member of the American Dental Association and was inducted into the American College of Dentists in 1988.
Ralph was a devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir and served in various member-led positions through the years. He found joy in music and was active in Mobile Opera as a member of the chorus. Ralph was also a past member of the Knight of Revelry Mystic Society.
His greatest blessings were his times with Mimi, his wife of 60 years. He loved dancing with her, being with his family, church, tennis, photography and Mardi Gras. Ralph’s lifelong friends also added great joy to his life.
A memorial service will be held on June 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1900 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36606, with Father Bailey Norman officiating. The visitation will be held after the service in the Parlor.
