She was a pitcher for the All America Girl's Professional Baseball League and was inducted into the SC Athletic Hall of Fame and the T.L. Hanna High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She was honored with the Order of the Palmetto Award from the state and was part of the movie "A League of Their Own."

She was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Mae Moore Thompson and widow of Claude Thomas Griffin. In addition to them, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Carlisle, Floyd, Harold and James Thompson and sisters, Fredda Acker and Ninetta Spearman.
