Twyla was born on June 6, 1928 in Galena, KS to the union of William Ray Howerton and Jewell Gertrude (Blurton) Howerton.

She graduated from Galena High School with Honors in the Class of 1946.

In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles, family camping trips, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She always loved to have a pretty planter of flowers outside her window that she could take care of. She attended Calvary Baptist Church where she was a charter member. She served as church secretary from 1994-2011.
