Norman Ray Howerton, 87, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Private family services will be held at this time and a Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date.

Ray was born in Galena, Kansas on July 9, 1932 to William and Jewel (Burton) Howerton. He was united in marriage to Esther Millang on August 26, 1951 in Story City. They welcomed four children: Deb, Mark, Rick and Randy. Ray started working for Trow Dairy, delivering milk and eventually for Anderson Erickson. He also worked maintenance for property rentals and sold night crawlers for 55 years.

Ray enjoyed pheasant hunting and playing cards in his free time, but his favorite past time was fishing. He taught all his grandchildren to fish and enjoyed many special years full of memories fishing with his family.

Ray will be missed by his wife of 68 years, Esther; children: Deb Borwick, Mark (Diane) Howerton, Rick (Dawn) Howerton and Randy Howerton; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Twyla, Wanda, William, Joe and Glen.
