Manitowoc - Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Mahnke, age 86, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at her residence.

Mary Lou was born on November 16, 1931 in Manitowoc to the late Benedict and Margaret (O'Connor) Bartelme. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1950. On July 10, 1954, Mary Lou married Ashton J. Mahnke at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2012. Mary Lou enjoyed her work throughout many years as a school secretary, especially during her time at St. Boniface School. She was a member and active volunteer at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and volunteer at Peter's Pantry. Mary Lou was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, puzzles, and playing bridge with her friends. However, her true joy came from spending time with her large family, particularly her grandchildren, all of whom were able to bring out a very special side of their grandmother; through her animated antics with her grandchildren, Mary Lou delighted in making everyone laugh.

Mary Lou is survived by her seven daughters, Diane (Steve) Sassman, Hot Springs Village, AR; Gail (Mark) Haller, Menomonee Falls; Judith Mahnke, Fond du Lac; Lynn (Steve) Reed, Daniel Island, SC; Beth (Steve) Workman, Purcellville, VA; Kaye Mahnke, Milwaukee; and Sue (Todd) Soczka, Wauwatosa; ten grandchildren, Melissa (Nate) Kauffman; Michael (Andrea) Brixius; Trenton, Hanna and Logan Reed; Max, Jack and Grady Workman; Eliza and Adam Soczka; brother-in-law, Thomas Stobber; nieces, Karen Kastner, Jean Hauschulz and Christine Kolpin; nephews, John Hauschulz and Craig Kazda, along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benedict and Margaret Bartelme; husband, Ashton; two sisters, Margaret Stobber and Catherine Hauschulz; brother, James Bartelme along with her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Delmar Hauschulz, Al (Janet) Franzen and Clarence (Edith) Kazda; and nephew, Robert (Bob) Stobber.

In respect with Mary Lou's wishes, a private family memorial service was held at Calvary Chapel Mausoleum on Friday, January 12, 2018 with Deacon Rich Bahnaman officiating. Cremation took place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with interment of Mary Lou's ashes at Calvary Mausoleum.
