Our beloved father, Vern “Ed” Chalupa passed away on January 24, 2018 at the age of 80.

He was born in Tacoma, WA on April 16, 1937 to Vern S. and Cleora R. Chalupa. Ed lived most of his life in Yakima. He served in the Navy reserves during his Junior and Senior years and graduated from Yakima High School in 1955. Ed served in the U.S. Army from December 1955 - December 1958 as a Military Policeman. It was then that he met the love of his life, Geraldine Ann Mohring in Sparta, Wisconsin. They married on June 27, 1959. He moved back to Yakima and worked as a sheet metal worker until his retirement in 1998.

Ed is survived by his three daughters, Christine (Steve) Turner of Yakima, Kim Cone of Yakima and Kathleen (Gary) Johnson of Gleed; a sister, Marlene Smith of Puyallup, WA; sisters-in-law, Mary Mohring of Weston, WI, Elizabeth Chalupa of Selah, WA, and Donna Grogan of Longview, WA; grandchildren, Jordan (Melissa) Turner of Grandview, WA, Matthew Cone of Post Falls, ID, Seth Cone of Yakima, WA, Ryan (Molly) Gifford of Selah, WA, and Taylor (Jonathan) Wilcox of Yakima, WA; five great grandchildren, Flynn Turner, Si Turner, Ara Turner, Max Gifford, Arya Gifford and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern S. and Cleora R. Chalupa; his wife, Geraldine A. Chalupa; his brother, Stanley Chalupa and his granddaughter, Ashley Turner.

He enjoyed playing softball, golf, fishing and especially playing poker on Saturdays and Sundays with his friends.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 379 and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers local 55 since 1961.

We hope that what lives on in all of us is Dad’s quick wit, sense of humor and his undying love for his daughters, family, friends and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Langevin-El Paraiso Funeral Home, 1010 W. Yakima Ave., Yakima. Military graveside services will follow at Tahoma Cemetery, 1802 Tahoma Ave., Yakima.

We would like to thank North Star Lodge and Landmark Care Center for the kind and loving care they showed our dad.
