Unknown grave, marked with shells pressed into concrete, and bricks that may have supported a wooden grave marker with the deceased's name. There are several such graves in Enon Cemetery. According to this web page: http://www.al.com/living/index.ssf/2015/08/why_victorian-era_southerners.html there are several possible explanations for graves marked with shells: 1) a representation to slaves of returning to Africa; 2) a symbol of a person's Christian pilgrimage; and 3) to protect grave sites, used by people too poor to pay for a stone marker.
