PASSING OF A PIONEER MILLMAN Thomas Vance, Brother of Late John Vance, Answers Last Call at Eureka Home CAME HERE FROM MAINE IN 1869 He Reached the Age of 93 Years and Is Survived by His Wife and One Son and Several Grandchildren

Another old time millman of Humboldt bay has answered the last summons, Thomas Vance, who died at his home, 655 Fifteenth street, Eureka, Sunday morning of ailments incident to extreme old age, he having almost reached the ninety-third milestone of life's journey. Born in Colchester county, Nova Scotia, October 23, 1828, at the age of 37 he moved to Arostook county, Maine, and from there, three years later, came to Eureka. Here, soon afterward, his brother, the late John Vance, pioneer millman of the bay, placed him in charge of his Eureka mill, which stood at the foot of G street. In this position he remained twenty years, when the mill was burned. This was about thirty years ago, and since that time he had lived a retired life. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Annie McCulloch, his wife, a son and another daughter having died here seven or eight years ago. Also he leaves four grandchildren,. Clifford McCulloch, Mrs. Marie Baker, Vance Jenson and Orion Vance. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Pierce parlors, interment at Myrtle Grove cemetery.
