Obituary for Betty Mason
Betty Mason, 89, recently of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and formerly of Centerville, Iowa, passed away on February 8, 2018. Betty was born in Collegeville, Pennsylvania on December 2, 1928 to the late Harry and Margaret (Cassel) Harley.
After graduating from Collegeville-Trappe High School in 1946, Betty attended Pottstown School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the hospital at Castaner, Puerto Rico (where she was introduced to her husband-to-be) and later in obstetrics at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Centerville.
Betty married Earl Mason in Collegeville, Pennsylvania on February 10, 1957 and to this union, two children were born.
Betty enjoyed many activities throughout her life; particularly travel and music. She was an active member of Fairview Church of the Brethren near Unionville, Iowa and volunteered for many years with the Lord’s Cupboard in Centerville.
Betty is survived by her son, Tom (Diana) Mason; daughter, Mary Jane Mason; four grandchildren: Anthony Mason, Elizabeth Rekowski, Josh Mason and Arthur Rekowski; sister, Edith Mack; brother, Calvin Hartley and several nieces and nephews including Melissa Neher of Udelll, Iowa.
Per Betty’s wishes, her body has been deeded to the University of Iowa in hopes of furthering medical research. Memorials may be made to the Lord’s Cupboard in Centerville or to the disaster relief for Puerto Rico through the Church of the Brethren website and online condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com
