Independence Man Dead
Funeral services will be held Tuesday for Matt Kasella, 93, retired farmer, who died Sunday morning. The Rev LJ Kufel officiating at St Peter and Paul's church at 9am. Burial will be in church cemetery..
Mr Kasella died at the Peter Puchalla residence where he lived. He was born in Germany to Phillip and Catherine (Sluga) Kasella. He came to this country when 14 years old. His father died in Independence in 1904. All of his siblings have died. His sister Johanna (John F) Sonsalla also lived in Independence. She died in 1933. Two brothers Leopald died 1935 and Peter Wilhelm died in 1939, they both lived in Risk County, WI, another brother William died in 1941in St Croix County, WI.
He lived in Fairchild, Chippewa Co., and Rusk Co., as well. He farmed here most of his life.
His first wife was Mary Symiczek, they had three daughters: Victoria McDougall, Veronica and Theresa. Mary died before 1914.
His second wife, whom he married in 1914 the former Hattie (Hedwig) Sobotta died in 1940.
His 1st wife may have been sister of Joe Symiczek (1849) of Independence?
