Nancy and he died close to the same time of the same disease, possibly influenza or pneumonia, after the birth of their youngest child in 1864 and before the 1870 census. Buried near their home, in a field off current NN east of Hopedale. Five surviving minor children were raised by Nancy's two maiden sisters, Celia and Elizabeth Duncan.
