John Funaro Jr., 80, passed away December 27, 2017. He was the adoring husband of the late Geraldine R. (Barker) Funaro; son of the late John and Giuseppina Funaro; loving father of Christine L. Smaldone and her husband Christopher, and Rita M. Cerroni and her husband Thomas; step-father of Robert M. Yanni and his wife Cristy, and Adam M. Yanni and his wife Lisa; devoted grandfather of Lauren Evans, Matthew, Jacob and Samantha Smaldone, Michael and Nicholas Cerroni; step-grandfather of Josephine, Diego and Michael Yanni. He was the loving father of the late John M. Funaro and brother of the late Mary Huftle, Assunta Palmisciano, Angelo, Felix and Santo Funaro.
John served in the U.S. Air Force and was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a B.S. John was employed as an Electronic Engineer for Hewlett Packard. John loved nature and traveling especially by airplane. He was a very generous man not only with his family but also supported many charities.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, 4-7 p.m. with his funeral on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 or Hopkins Manor Activities Fund, 610 Smithfield Road, North Providence, RI 02904.
