Gladys Marie Shell, age 89, of Christiansburg passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Hearth & Home, Springfield. Born on January 8, 1929 in Ross County, Ohio she was a daughter of the late Leon O. and Maude (Cox) Mills.
She married Alonzo Jackson "Jack" Shell on August 19, 1947 and he preceded her in death on September 30, 1996. Gladys is survived by her four children, Eddie G. (Marian) Shell, Pat Sewell (James Bower), Kathy (Richard) Spencer all of Springfield and Vickie Insley of Urbana. She was a loving grandmother to six grandchildren, Christie (George) Gianakopoulos of Fairbanks, AK, Holly (Ryan) Langhurst of London, OH, David Sewell of Elida, OH, Jackie (Kyle) Kent of Medford, NJ, Jeff Spencer (Tina) of Yellow Springs, OH and Jarid Insley and his friend Chelsea and her daughter Kylie of Urbana, OH; and seven great grandchildren, Jack & Griffen, Soula & Django, Lily, A.J and Ben. A sister, Shirley Snider of Christiansburg, OH, also survives her.
In addition to her parents and husband, seven brothers, Reynold, Cecil, Russell, Arthur, Robert, John David and Eddie; one sister, Merle; and one son-in-law, Ed Insley, preceded her in death.
Gladys graduated from Christiansburg-Jackson High School in 1947. She was formerly employed by Copeland’s in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St, St. Paris Ohio with Chaplain Randy Reed of the Kindred Hospice presiding. Burial will follow in Upper Honey Creek Cemetery, S. Elm Tree Rd, St. Paris, Ohio. Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral service on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m in the funeral home.
