Margaret Joyce Stabler, age 93, Keizer, Oregon, departed to be with her Lord on October 6, 2015, at Salem Hospital.

Margaret was born on May 12, 1922, in Gresham, Oregon, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Pearl Exley. She had four brothers, Joe, Bob, Delbert, and Wilbur, and one sister, Hellen. Margaret's life changed forever after her mother passed away when Margaret was only 4 years old. She was raised by her Aunt Rose in Gresham, Oregon. She was an extra loving and extra giving mom to her whole family throughout her life.

Margaret graduated from Gresham High School in 1940, and later attended the University of Oregon. Margaret married the love of her life, Frederick D. (Fred) Stabler on September 1, 1946, in Gresham, Oregon. They began their family in 1948, when Linda was born. Diane was born in 1951, Nancy in 1953, and Bill in 1956. They were married for 62 years prior to Fred's passing in 2009.

They lived in Gresham, Oregon for the first few years of their marriage. Then they moved to McMinnville, which became their hometown until Fred's retirement in 1980. They moved to Salem, Oregon, in 1980, and eventually moved to the Avamere retirement community in 2000.

Margaret was active in PEO and Eastern Star for many years. Margaret and Fred were very proficient dancers, and loved square dancing and especially round dancing. They were world travelers. Margaret loved playing cards with their friends and family.

The most difficult thing Margaret ever faced was when her daughter Diane was killed in a car crash in 1974. Diane was only 23.

Margaret was always quick to smile, and quicker to welcome people into her home, wherever it was. She loved visiting with grandkids and great-grandkids. She always put the needs of everyone else above her own needs. She was a loving, giving, kind-hearted soul who never spoke poorly of anyone.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Linda Stabler, her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Ron Burnett, her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Julie Stabler, her nieces Pam Exley Lowes, Robin Exley Williams, and her nephew Bob Exley, her nephew Dick Wedin, her niece Shirley Griffith, her grandchildren: Danielle Kinder and Jesse Stafford, Vanessa Stanton and Darcy Petruna, Amanda Wolf Walters and Chris Wolf; her great-grandchildren: Anna Kinder, Kellen Kinder, Ava Petruna, Will Stafford, Taylor Petruna, Emma Kinder, Luke Stafford, Ellie Stafford, and Stryder Petruna.

An informal memorial service and celebration of life will occur on October 24th, 2015, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Avamere Retirement Center, 5210 River Road North, Keizer, Oregon, 97303.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Avamere, who so loved Margaret, and cared for her for many years. Margaret was a wonderfully loving and giving person, and now she is home, reunited with her Lord and Savior, and her beloved husband. Assisting is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
