Ruth A. Clapper, age 86, of Quincy, died Monday, March 12, 2018, at 9:53 am in Blessing Hospital.
Ruth was born January 21, 1932 in Lewis County, Missouri, the daughter of Everett Lee and Anna Marie Dehner Cottrell. She married Curtis Ray Clapper on August 28, 1954 in Marcelline, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2000.

Ruth attended Monticello Grade School and Lewistown High School. She was employed at Motorola for 17 years and later was a supervisor at Sheller Globe for five years. She also served as treasurer for the URW Union.

She loved quilting and made quilts for all of her siblings. She enjoyed her garden and flowers and spending time with her dog, Buddy. Ruth was a loving sister and aunt and a very good neighbor.

Survivors include two sisters, Margie (Charles) Russell of Warsaw, IN, and Mary Jane Patchin of Sumter, SC; a brother, Wilbur Wayne (Christina) Cottrell of Monticello, MO; a brother-in-law, Roger Gravitt; many nieces and nephews; and a very dear friend and neighbor, Brenda Manis.

In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James Rufus (Carol) Cottrell and Everett Lee (Ann) Cottrell, Jr, two sisters, Forrest Rose (Raymond) Morgan and Wanda Lou Gravitt, and a brother-in-law, Dennis Bryant.

Services: 3:00 pm on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating.

Burial: Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
