Martha Chappell Love was born in 1760 to Robert Chappell and Agnes Cross Chappell in Virginia. She was the only daughter of Robert and Agnes.

She moved with her family to South Carolina just before the beginning of the American Revolution where they lived in the Richland District.

She married Isaac Love, a native of Lunenburg County, VA, on March 2, 1776. They had five children, four sons and one daughter.

When the American Revolutionary War began, Isaac moved Martha and his family to Lunenburg County, VA, and he returned to South Carolina where he enlisted in the United States Army. After the American Revolutionary War, he returned to Virginia and moved his family back to South Carolina and again settled in the Richland District.

Isaac and Martha would die early in life and leave their five children as orphans to be raised by different family members in the states of Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia.

She is the Wife of Isaac Love; the Mother of William Love, Chappell Love, David Love, Robert Love, Henry Love, and Martha "Patsy" Love; the Daughter of Robert Chappell and Agnes Cross Chappell; and the Sister of Hicks Chappell and Laban Chappell.
