Verna Quiring Kroeker, homemaker, 85, died January 1, 2007 at Henderson, NE. She was born November 18, 1921 in Bessie, OK, to Peter J. and Helena (Dalke) Quiring. In 1929 Verna’s family moved to Madrid, Nebraska. After graduating from Grant High School, she taught in a country school. On December 27, 1942 she married Norman Kroeker. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2006. In 1946 they settled down on a farm near Madrid where they lived until moving to rural Henderson in 1951. Here they farmed and raised their family. Verna was an active member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church, teaching Sunday School and working in the Mission Circle. After they moved to town in 1981, she continued her work with the Mission Circle and served in the church nursery. She also joined the Garden Club and enjoyed planting and caring for flowers around the Henderson Care Center. When she could no longer attend church or garden club, she faithfully listened to the radio broadcast of the services and was able to appreciate the flowers she had planted around the nursing home.

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Vesta and one sister and one brother. Surviving her are daughters Elaine Schroeder, Goessel, KS, Gladys and Chris Christopherson, Athens, AL, Doris and Bob House, Topeka, KS; sons, Glen and Bonny Kroeker, Juniata, NE, Don and Sandy Kroeker, Henderson, Max and Patty Kroeker, Henderson as well as six grandchildren.

A devotional in memory of Verna was held at the Henderson Care Center on Thursday, January 11, 2007. No viewing or visitation as it was Verna’s wish to be cremated. Memorials may be directed the Henderson Health Care Services.
