Husband of Barbara SHEETS

Michael TROUT was born 14 Jul 1760 in Bart Twp, Lancaster, PA. He was the son of the Rev. Hans Michol TRAUT 1730-1780 and the grandson of Johann Wendel Georg TRAUT 1689-1760 who had immigrated from Kleinfischlingen (near Landau), Electoral Palatinate, Holy Roman Empire (now in Südliche Weinstraße, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany). He arrived in Philadelphia in 1738 and almost immediately settled with his young family in Paradise Twp, near Strasburg, Lancaster, PA.

At about 11 years old, Michael TROUT moved with his parents, Hans Michael TROUT and Catherine Elizabeth BERGER, to Frederick County, MD in 1771 where his father purchased land where the Taneytown Pike crosses the Monocacy River (now known as Bridgeport) midway between Emmittsburg and Taneytown.

In about 1780, Michael TROUT married Barbara SHEETS, the daughter of neighbor Jacob SHEETS, also of the Bridgeport area.

Sometime after the death of his father in 1780, Michael TROUT moved his young family 30 miles northwest to Chambersburg, Franklin, PA and perhaps using his share of his father's estate, first purchased property there in 1785. Michael was a major in Franklin County Militia and also kept a tavern in the house long known as Radebaugh's Tavern, where the famous Indian Queen Hotel was later built. His brothers, George and Philip, were also in Franklin County in 1786.

Michael TROUT died 25 Sept 1806 and was buried in the First Evangelical Lutheran Churchyard in Chambersburg. His son, George 1786-1819, is buried beside him. Another son, Michael, moved to Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and was the heir to his brother George's estate. Michael's widow, Barbara [SHEETS] TROUT, married second to John WICKSHAM and continued appear in Franklin County census recordds through at least 1820.

Michael TROUT is buried in the SW corner of churchyard and his gravestone inscription reads as follows:
