Bobby "Cowboy" Copas
November 10, 1933 - March 21, 2018

Bobby “Cowboy” Copas, 84, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born November 10, 1933, in Kingsport, to the late John D. and Revil Copas.

Bobby had an unconditional love for his wife and family. He was a “jokester” and never met a stranger. Bobby always put others first. He enjoyed fishing, collecting coins and NASCAR memorabilia. Bobby was an avid fan of UT sports and enjoyed attending car shows. His grandchildren brought him great joy in life.

Mr. Copas retired from Tennessee Eastman following over forty years of service and was a member of Eastern Star Freewill Baptist Church. He sang in a Gospel Quartet for many years and loved to sing old hymns of the church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James D. “Jimmy” Copas.

Those left to cherish his memory are is loving wife of sixty-four years, Shirley Slaughter Copas; children, Mark Copas (Rhonda), Teresa Hilbert (Marty) and Heather Young (Kevin); grandchildren, Corbin Young, Courtney Young Potter, Celsea Copas, Caleb Copas and Colton Young; special niece, Patty Barger (Jeff).

The family will receive friends 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 3:00 pm in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel with Pastor George Winegar officiating. Music will be provided by the Potters.

A Graveside and Committal Service will follow at Eastern Star Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Bobby’s honor be made to Lupus Foundation Of America by visiting lupus.org
